in Budapest and settle-in at your hotel.

Day/Tue - BUDAPEST/GODOLLO/EGER.
Pick up
at your hotel at 9 am. Drive to Godollo, a favorite summer retreat
of the Hapsburgs. Visit of the Baroque Grassalkovich Palace. Drive
through the picturesque Matra Mountains, site of Hungary’s highest
peak (Kekes, 3039 ft) Afternoon arrival in Eger, fabled for its
wine and legendary resistance to the invading Turks and Hapsburgs.
Walking tour of historic Eger (Minaret, Castle, County Hall, Cathedral).
Dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight in Eger. (B,D)
4th Day/Wed -
EGER/MEZOKOVESD/KECSKEMET.
After
breakfast depart for Mezokovesd, marketplace of the “Matyo” folk
artists, famous for richly decorated embroidery work. Continue
to Kecskemet. Walking tour of the city includes Town Hall Kodaly
Institute, Calvinist Church, Cifra Palace, Town Hall.Hungarian
dinner with wine and
gipsy music in a Csarda in nearby Lajosmizse. Overnight
in Kecskemet. (B,D)
5th Day/Thu

KECSKEMET/KALOCSA/PECS. After
breakfast depart for Kalocsa, land of the “red gold”, better known
as the paprika. Walking tour of the Archepiscopal Palace and Library,
the Baroque Cathedral, Folk Art Museum and the renowned wall –
paintings of the Kalocsa. Continue to Pecs, the most romantic
city in Hungary’s Transdanubia region. In the afternoon, we recommend
visiting the museums of the famous painters Vasarely or Csontvary
and the sculptor Amerigo Tot or to explore the creations of the
celebrated Zsolnay porcelain factory. Dinner and overnight in
Pecs. (B,D)

Day/Fri - PECS/KESZTHELY/HEVIZ.
Morning
city tour of Pecs includes the former mosque, which is Hungary’s
largest monument from the Turkish age, Cathedral, All Saint’s
Church. Mosque of Jakovali Hassan. Continue to the Lake Balaton,
the most popular holiday resort in the country. In Keszthely –
the region’s oldest town – visit the Baroque Palace of the noble
Festetich family with its stunning library. Dinner and overnight
in Heviz. (B,D).
7th
Day/Sat - HEVIZ/TIHANY/HEREND/VESZPREM/BALATONFURED. Travel
to Tihany, the oldest settlement in the Balaton region. Visit
the Abbey Church, founded in 1055. Continue to Balatonfured, check
in at your hotel, and proceed to Herend, world famous porcelain
factory, founded in 1839. Tour of Veszprem (Castle district, Gizella
Chapel, Cathedral). Return to Balatonfured, for dinner and overnigh.

8th Day/Sun
- BALATONFURED/PANNONHALMA/GYOR/BUDAPEST.
Visit
Hungary’s oldest building, the Pannonhalma Abbey. Its Library consists
of over 300,000 volumes, rare documents and more than 70 manuscripts
from the 11th century. We continue to Gyor, where Napoleon
spent a night in 1809. After a walking tour (Carmelite Church, Cathedral,
Szechenyi Square) we return to Budapest. Arrival at about 6 pm.
